Trail Type: Medium distance circuit; trail surface mostly paved, with some hard-packed earthen sections, sometimes covered by loose gravel; well maintained, but the trail itself has no designated marking.

Length: 10 kilometers/ 6 miles (2.5 hours)

Convenient to: Colmar, or Guebwiller, France

Trail Description: A medium distance circuit hike with gentle inclines and descents, through the vineyards around three small villages.

Trailhead: Bergholtz, Rue Vauban

Parking:

Bergholtz: Rue de Bergholtzzell, lots by the Mairie or sports field; or street parking on Rue de l’Eglise

Bergholtz-Zell: by the sports fields, along the path

Public Transportation Options:

Bus: The bus company, (search Ligne de Haute Alsace), Bus 440, connects Colmar with Guebwiller, with stops at Orschwihr and Bergholtz

Rail: SNCF (the national French rail service) connects other cities in France with Colmar, but does not serve this particular hiking area.

Bergholtz: R. des Vosges-R. du Canal, R. de la Foret, vineyards; Domaine Grunenberger, D5; Bergholtz-Zell: R. des Pres-Le Banngraben-R.de l’Ete-R. de Bollenberg, cross stream; Orschwihr: R. de l’Automne-R. des Saules, sports field. and vineyards, more vineyards, at the top of Bollenberg rise head south, Chapelle Bollenberg, vineyards, cross Quierenbach, past R de l’Eglise, turn south at water treatment facility onto R. Vauban.

Tasting along the Trail: None directly on the trail, although several may be found within the township areas.

Alternative Options:

Biking: The southern half of the Veloroute du Vignoble d’Alsace (Alsatian Wine Road Cycle Route) passes through both Bergholtz and Orschwihr, mostly on restricted access (for motor vehicles) unimproved roads, albeit a small amount of road-travel through the two villages.

Car: The Route des Vins d’Alsace (Alsatian Wine Route), a 170-kilometer-long itinerary through various wine producing districts and associated villages within Alsace.
