Circuit Cremant and Auto Pedestre 1: A Nutshell on TWO Trails

Trail Names:

Circuit Cremant

Auto-Pedestre 1

Trail Types: 2 short distance circuits;

Cremant: Short hiking circuit; paved, well maintained and marked.

Auto-Pedestre 1: Short hiking circuit, some parts paved, some hard-packed, some soft dirt; some sections marked, but markings missing in a couple of crucial spots.

Lengths:

Cremant: 4.6 km/2.8 miles

Auto-Pedestre 1: 8 km/5 miles

Convenient to:

Luxembourg, Luxembourg, with local public transportation

Trier, Germany, with a car

Markings:

Cremant: Flute on a white pentagon, on red background with green edge

Auto-Pedestre 1: Black “1” on a blue triangle on white rectangular sign

Trail Name: Chemin des Grands Crus

Trail Type: Long distance hiking trail, wine-themed; with a widely varying trail surface from paved road to grass track, somewhat maintained, and signposted or marked at many intersections, but not all.

Length:

  • Total: 82 km/51 miles
  • Segment (Northern half): roughly 34 km/22 miles (Chenove to Villars la Faye)

Convenient to: Dijon, Burgundy, France

Rhine Cycle Route – Upper Middle Rhine: Trail in a Nutshell

Trail Name: Rheinradweg (German)/Rhine Cycle Route, also known as Eurovelo 15

Trail Type: Long distance cycling trail; This segment is completely paved, well maintained, and much of it follows a dedicated trail for bicycles. The specific route marking is not always easy to see, but bike signs to the next town/destination are abundant. (Otherwise, just go with (or against) the flow, literally.)

Length:

Total: over 1200 km/circa 760 miles

Segment: circa 45 km/ 30 miles

Convenient to: Bingen, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany

Trail Name: German Wine Route Hiking Trail/Wanderweg Deutsche Weinstrasse

Trail Type: Long distance hiking trail; pavement or hard-packed trail surface throughout, well maintained, and fairly well-marked.

Length:

Total: 96 km/60 miles of the complete trail

First segment of the Mittelhaardt district: 18.5 km/11.5 miles

Second segment of the Mittelhaardt district: 24 km/15 miles

Convenient to: Ludwigshafen, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany

Trail Name: Trail of Lagrein and Sauvignon/Weinroute Nord (Northern Wine Route) of the Suedtirol Weinstrasse.

Trail Type: Mid-distance cycling circuit; almost exclusively paved, well maintained, but the route itself is not marked.

Length: Total: 45 km/28 miles

Convenient to: Bozen/Bolzano, Suedtirol/Alto Adige, Italy
